Bio
Album is a band that distances itself from the common linear patterns of pop. They explore the experimental possibilities of a vast amount of genres until their songs are transformed into, almost progressive, non fragmented pieces. Their music usually is rhythmic, unpretentious and rooted in an ethereal feeling which, although hard to decipher, usually ends up enchanting and capturing the listener completely.
Album was formed in 2002, with the simple intention of playing an recording music “rock” music. Due to the different composition styles and personal influences of each individual member, the band functions, to an extent, in four different realms, especially since all 4 of them are producers and composers themselves. The result has been a mix of electronic beats, guitar riffs, synth arrangements, and a steady lull of interesting and subtle melodies.
In December of 2003, after more than a year of recording, Album self-released their debut LP, “Eureka Sön,” which immediately garnered attention from artists, critics and audiences in general, who welcomed the band with rave reviews and lots of excitement. The LP was initially released as a physical CD, but also as a free digital download on their own website, which probably made it the first Mexican album to be released via the internet. The initial 1000 copies eventually ran out and thousands of more downloads, from people worldwide, ensued in the meantime.
The combination of these factors contributed to several songs being played in radio stations all over the world, and the internet. From Serbia and Montenegro, Australia, Germany, England and the USA, people started taking notice. By new years 2005, Canadian station UMFM named “Eureka Sön” the best independent album of 2004.
Album has played alongside Mexican bands like Jumbo, Vaquero, Plastilina Mosh, and in 2005 they played a set at Austin’s SXSW festival which gained attention from the NY Times.
After almost 2 years of work, and a few digital EPs, the band released their second LP “Microbricolages” in February of 2006. This album was also released as a physical copy, alongside the digital distribution Album had already been known for pioneering in their local city of Monterrey, in northern Mexico.
In 2007 Album played at New York’s CMJ Music Marathon and released their third LP. Titled “Album VS Monterrey”, this release compiled a series of covers, remixes, revisions, and reworks from original songs from independent and commercial bands hailing from Monterrey. This involved bands like Zurdok, Jumbo, Niña, D3ndron, Quiero Club, 60 Tigres, Plastilina Mosh, and many more.
In 2008 they went back to Austin to play at SXSW, and then released their fourth LP, titled “Cancer Baby” which figured amongst several lists of the best of 2008 in latin music and Mexican music blogs.
In 2009 they released a new EP titled “Quantization Proclamation” which demonstrated the band taking a more experimental and avant-garde approach to their music and a joint LP alongside fewllow band En Ventura, as well as a final b-sides EP.
Currently the band signed to, the Portland based, Arena Rock indie label, and is working on new material to be released in summer 2010.

“If Café Tacuba ’s influential 1994 release, Re,is the Sgt.Pepper ’s of Mexican alt-rock (and the band ’s 1999 “Reves/Yo Soy the “White Album ”), then Eureka Sön, the 2003 debut full-length by Monterrey-based quartet Album, might well be the scene ’s Paul ’s Boutique or OK Computer —maybe both.” – Time Out New York (#530, 11-24-05)
“Microbricolages, offers an hour-long barrage of brief, densely constructed gems—none of which sound Mexican in any conventional sense.
